Events and Celebrations

There’s no age limit when it comes to celebrations. Parties and other social activities are important for people of all ages because you get to share a special moment with friends. Senior social activities are not only beneficial in getting them to interact during adult care, but it can also provide mental and physical benefits—friendship and something exciting to look forward to.

The effects of senior activities are beneficial and limitless. When they socialize through senior activities, they’ll have people surrounding them even during important events or holidays. For seniors who suffer from Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia, social activities can become a memory-strengthening exercise. At Homerly we know the importance of social activities for seniors. We love to celebrate special moments with our seniors and disabled adults. From birthdays to holidays, we want to make them feel special and surround them with friends, family and our staff.

Songkran

Songkran is the traditional Thai New Year festival. It is a celebration that embraces goodwill, love, and compassion. and thankfulness, using water as the means of expression. It is an extended public holiday to enable the people to return to their hometown for family reunions, merit-making and reuniting with others in their community.

Day of the Senior or Elderly

Declared the Day of the Senior or Elderly by the government. The occasion marks the appreciation of the senior population for their years of contribution to the family and country. Homerly seniors and the Homely team will help to beautify Homerly Place with fabric, colored paper, flowers, banana leaves, and other natural materials. We had planned a lovely party and activities to honor each senior, complete with flowers, garland, and Thai fragrance, as well as new clothes. We sincerely apologize if there are any conflicts or problems that have caused someone else’s feelings to be hurt.

14th April

Loy Krathong Festival

The Loy Krathong Festival on the full moon day is usually held in November, designated as Family Day to celebrate family love and togetherness. Our residents at Homerly will have a get together and do some cooking class. Then after that, in the evening we have a nice party, where all the seniors and staff are singing and dancing together. A krathong is a small lotus-shaped boat, traditionally made from banana leaves and decorated with flowers. In the center of the Krathong, there are traditionally 3 sticks of incense, a lit candle, and other things like hair and coins. It is one of the biggest festivals in Thailand. The meaning of the word Loy Krathong is “float a basket’.

In the evening of the festival, Thai people gather around rivers, lakes, and canals to release lotus-shaped baskets, or krathongs, as a way to give thanks to the goddess of water (called Pra Mae Khongkha) and ask for forgiveness for using too much water or contaminating it. Nowadays, it is also a way to get rid of negativity gathered during the previous year and welcome good fortune in the coming year. Every Loy Kratong Day, everyone at Homerly will get together to create their own Tharong with banana leaf folding and flowers. We also assist everyone in dressing in Thai costumes for the lady.
